Hank Ostrander
Co-owner & general manager
Wilderness First Responder · Climbing wall instructor certified
Hank started climbing at 41, on a work trip to Joshua Tree, when a coworker handed him a pair of rental shoes. He climbed for fifteen years while designing bridges and culverts along the Front Range, and in 2015 he and Naomi Ito signed a lease on an old lumber warehouse on Pioneer Way.
Basecamp opened in the spring of 2016 with sixty boulder problems and eight rope lines. Hank runs the building: the walls, the anchors, the inspections and the budget. He also hosts first-visit tours and birthday parties, because he likes meeting new climbers and the cake is good.
When he isn’t at the gym he’s usually on a bike on the Marshall Mesa trails or arguing with Naomi about whether a V3 is really a V3.
