Release of liability and assumption of risk
I want to climb, boulder, train and take classes at Basecamp Climbing Gym, and to use its walls, ropes, equipment, training area and yoga room.
The risks. Climbing and bouldering are physical activities with real risks. I may fall from a wall or a hold, or while being lowered, and I may land on padding, on the floor or on another person. I may be hurt by my own mistake, a belayer’s or another climber’s mistake, a hold or piece of equipment that fails or comes loose, or someone falling onto me. Injuries can range from bruises, sprains and broken bones to serious injury, paralysis and death. The training area, yoga room and classes carry risks of strains and other injuries. I understand these risks cannot all be removed, and I take part knowing them.
Gym rules. I will follow the posted rules and the directions of staff. I will climb within my ability, warm up, and stop if I’m hurt or tired. I will not belay, lead climb or use an assisted-braking device until I’ve passed the gym’s belay test, and I will check my own harness and knot and my partner’s before every climb. I will stay off the bouldering pads except to climb or spot, and never climb above or below another climber. I understand staff may ask me to stop climbing or to leave.
Equipment. I will look over any rental equipment before I use it, and I’ll tell staff right away about anything that looks worn or damaged. I’m responsible for the safe use of equipment I bring myself.
Release. As far as the law allows, I release Basecamp Climbing Gym from any claims for injury, illness, death, loss or damage that come from my taking part, including those caused by ordinary negligence, except those caused by its gross negligence or willful misconduct. I agree not to bring a claim against the gym for those things, and that this release also binds my heirs and anyone who might claim through me.
Medical care. If I’m hurt, I allow staff to call for emergency care and I’m responsible for its cost. I understand the gym doesn’t carry medical insurance for me.
How long it lasts. This agreement covers every visit, class, workshop, event and rental for one year from the day I sign it. I can read it again on the gym’s website at any time.
Other terms. If a court finds part of this agreement can’t be enforced, the rest stays in effect. In this agreement, “Basecamp Climbing Gym” means the gym named on this website and its owners, employees, coaches and volunteers.
I am 18 or older. I have read this agreement, I understand it, and I sign it of my own free will.
